  • AMATEUR WIRELESS TELEGRAPH STATION LICENCE COURSE

As on March 31st, 2002, we have trained 522 students for this course.
Out of those who appeared for the Government exam 167 students have passed Govt. of India examination and have obtained their wireless licenses. The Skyline Aviation Club conducts training courses to obtain Amateur Wireless Telegraph Station License in various grades under the club license granted by Ministry of Communication, Govt. of India to "THE SKYLINE AVIATION CLUB" vide License No. 22623, Callsign : VU2ADO. The wireless training courses are conducted under supervision and guidance of certified Amateur Wireless Telegraph Station Operator Chief Instructor Capt. A.D. Manek, Callsign : VU2ADW. Students will have opportunities for live demonstration in wireless communications, which will be carried out with fellow amateurs in India as well as through the world on latest wireless equipment imported from Japan. Ministry of Communications, Govt. of India will conduct examinations for award of licenses in the premises of the Institute at the end of the course.

Amateur Radio is the hobby counterpart of the industry of radio communication, just as Aeromodelling is a hobby related to the aircraft industry. Basically amateur radio is a scientific hobby of wireless communication between citizens by means of private two-way radio for personal communication through out the world. Amateur Radio is also known as Ham Radio. Radio transmitters and receivers are the equipment required for communication. To install, maintain and use transmitters and receivers, the applicant is first required to undergo training and pass examination conducted by the Ministry of Communications, Govt. of India . On passing the examination the Govt. of India will issue the wireless license. A license holder can establish a radio station in his home or on a motorbike or car as mobile radio station. With the help of a simple WT radio transmitter of Rs. 1000/- a radio operator can communicate with any person in any corner of the world. License holder can talk / discuss through wireless with any Amateur Radio Operator around the world legally. There are more than 12000 licensed Indian citizens who have private wireless sets. If you compare the figure with foreign countries like Japan, USA, UK and Russia they have ham radio operators in lakhs. Amateur Radio Operators of every country in the world exchange their ideas, view at every moment of 24 hrs. a day and obtain the latest news on each and every minute of the world within the four walls of their homes.

It is a bit difficult to count the benefits one gets in this hobby. This is a hobby of King Hussein of Jorden, Ex-Prime Minister Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi and celebrated actor Amitabh Bachchan of India and likewise many well-known figures of the world including pilots, doctor, engineers, astronauts, mountaineers and many electronic brains of the world, with whom one can make friendships.

Moreover, an operator can increase his knowledge in his own specialized field. Or one can make a career in electronics, telecommunications, science and modern technology fields by becoming a scientist, technician, engineer, radio officer or an entrepreneur in Electronics etc. Apart from all this, one can help the nation in natural calamities like cyclones, floods, earthquakes, fires, emergency medical services etc., by using his wireless set for immediate communication and win many awards and prizes.

Geographically, Japan is a very small country, but it leads in electronic technology only because the average Japanese is interested in amateur radio. That's why Japan is No. 1 in the highest number of amateur radio operators in the world and this is the secret of its success in electronics. Our Govt. has exercised good policies to promote and encourage this activity after realizing the success of Japan. This activity is approved by the "INTERNATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATION UNION (ITU)" H.Q. : Geneva and Governments of all nations of the world. In India the Ministry of Communication, Govt. of India approves it.

The Skyline Aviation Club is a member Organization of "The Amateur Radio Society of India " Western Region Bombay and "National Institute of Amateur Radio", Hyderabad to represent the Club in the activities of amateur radio at National and International level.
